Hey readers! Today I am super excited to write todays post, which is about unlikable characters! Most of the characters I will list are from YA books, mostly because I don't read a lot of adult books with antagonists, and I can't think of any other characters! So here is the ultimate list of unlikable characters!
9: Elizabeth (The Help) :
Elizabeth is the one who employs Aibileen and she is best buds with Hilly. I never liked Elizabeth because she is very impressionable and is always trying to fit in, wether that meant constructing a colored bathroom in the garage, or sewing her own dresses that look like the ones from trending stores. I am one of those people who is like, I'm-not-going-to-be-friends-with-someone-who-wants-me-to-change, and it was very infuriating to me to see Elizabeth bow to Hilly's will and try to do anything to stay in the popular group, no matter how much had to change.
8: Caleb (Divergent Trilogy):
Caleb is Tris' brother, but he still sells her out to the Erudite. Caleb his horrible because he is cowardly an trying to save himself by placing himself on what seems to be the winning side. But to be there he has to be a part in his sister's own attempted death. Caleb was also a very colorless and boring character in the books and movies. This made him even worse because now all the adjectives you can stick to him are coward and selfish.
7: Bella (Twilight):
Bella is whiny, ungrateful, selfish and completely dependent on everyone else around her. Edward leaves her. Her solution is to either do nothing, or crash motorcycles and jump off cliffs to get his attention. She has no strength, mentally or physically and does nothing but rave about Edward.
6: Scarlett (Gone With the Wind):
Scarlett has an odd personality, because I did not like her, but I had a lot of respect to her. I respected the way she made money to save her plantation no matter what anyone said, or what anyone did. The things I didn't like about her was she was selfish, conceited, jealous of everyone who got what she didn't, spoiled and used to getting her way. When she has to mourn for three years over a dead husband she never even loved, she never seems to realize that she did it to herself.
5: Dr. Cable (Uglies):
Dr. Cable is a Special who works for the government. I didn't like her because she was manipulative, sneaky and wasn't afraid to do whatever it would take to get what she wanted.
4: Theo (The Goldfinch):
Theo annoyed me because he was constantly making the wrong choices, even when it would have been so easy to just get up and do something before it was too late. He was just lazy and selfish, trying to make more money, keep this and that because he wanted it, get rid of that because he didn't. It is just hard for me to wrap my brain around his selfishness and wickedness.
3: Levanna (Cinder):
Levanna is the evil queen who wants all the power in the world. Shocker. The reason I didn't like Levanna is, that besides the normal evil queen qualities, she was manipulative (literally. Those who have read the book will understand), inconsiderate, and what I think is most infuriating, is completely obsessed with how pretty she look. Levanna lives in a world where she and her people have the power to control people and make themselves look like anyone they want. So Levanna is always caught up in "what should I look like today that would make everybody so impressed?".
2: August (Water for Elephants):
August is supposed to be the bad guy, and I realize that, but he is a great bad guy. He is a control freak; everything has to be perfect and his idea. He is territorial, immature, selfish, violent, short-tempered, full of animosity- shall I go on? Sara Gruen created this character perfectly, because he is a fantastic villain, with many, many traits that get him there!
1: Dolores Umbridge (Harry Potter)
