Hey everyone! Who's excited for Monday? Not me. Well, anyway, I finished the second book in this series about a week ago, and have been super excited for this review!
Tessa Monroe, a privileged seventeen-year-old, is excited when her father, who is a general in the British Navy, is reposted in the warm, tropical Caribbean in a city called St. Kitts. But during her passage across the Atlantic a deadly hurricane causes their ship to wreck. Tessa's father's last effort is to push her into a jolly boat and send her away from the shipwreck. When Tessa awakes, she discovers that a passing ship has rescued her, but soon realizes she is not a passenger, but a captive. Tessa teams up with the handsome quartermaster, Nicholas who is looking to escape a life of piracy. With mutiny in the air, Nicholas and Tessa come up with a daring plan to escape, or they face the gallows.
At first I thought this book was rather cheesy and I also found Tessa to be very arrogant and prideful that just ticked me off when I first started the book. The book does get better, though. One of the things I liked about the book was that if Tessa got into trouble, Price Charming didn't come save her immediately, Tessa was strong and brave and could for the most part fend for herself. Another thing that I liked was that the book seemed to be split into two parts, part one was the part from the summary of the book, part two took a completely different turn and was very unpredictable.
The first part of the book has an odd writing style, almost an amateur style, which made it less interesting during the beginning. I assume this was Lara Hay's first book. But her writing does get better and more intriguing. Even though I was not a huge fan of the book in the beginning, I came to really love this book. The second book especially I couldn't put down.
I really hope you enjoyed this review, and come back on Wednesday for a brand-new author bio!
