What is up, everybody?! ( Hey, it's Baby Brent!) I am super excited to write today's review because this series is probably my favorite YA series. By the way, that reference above is from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
Cinder is a second class citizen despite being an amazing mechanic because she is a cyborg. Cinder lives with her step mother and two step sister, while Cinder only has feelings for her youngest step-sister, Peony. Cinder has a vague and mysterious past, and when her step-sister catches the most lethal illness in the futuristic Asia, Cinder is blamed and disowned for this accident. So when Cinder crosses path with Prince Kai of the Commonwealth, her life is turned upside-down as she is caught in the middle of a feud between Earth and the gifted people who live on the moon in a colony called Luna. To help the future of her own world and Luna's, Cinder must dive into her past and uncover her secrets.
I am going to start with describing the world Cinder lives in: transportation is hovercrafts and spaceships, communications are comms, sent through tablets or feeds, if you are a cyborg. Androids take the place of nurses, guards, nannies and assistants and cyborgs are treated as though they have no feelings, though a cyborg is someone who has limbs and/or other non-working body parts replaced, so they are technically still a person.
A deadly disease called letumosis kills thousands a day. Quarantine is practically impossible because so many people are catching the disease, and no one who catches the disease has ever survived.
This book is also a twisted and futuristic fairy tale, which I have always had a soft spot for. Cinder is a resilient, brave soul who I admired. I also think that being a mechanic is super cool, so I loved this book from the beginning. All of the "good guy" characters are amazing, in fact. They are all developed and different, but each and everyone of them has extremely admirable qualities.
The plot line is complicated and interesting and each page will urge you on to the next. The mysteries and cliffhangers will make you read every book she has written and I am super excited to read the finale of the series, which comes out in November.
I hope to see you on Wednesday for an author bio for Marissa Meyer, the author of Cinder!
