Muah-ah-ah-ah-aaahhh! I mean... Hi! So October is my favorite month! The sweater weather, the pie, the boots, the pie, the fireplace, the pie... did I mention pie? Anyway, to celebrate this wonderful autumn month, I have read the following scary story books for your benefit during this spooky time. So curl up by the fire and read these super-scary horror tales!!
Book # 1- All Hallow’s Eve
This book was actually quite lame. Only two of the stories were mildly scary. Most of them just had ghosts in them, or an unexpected character was a vampire, but nothing scary like I like it. The book was also a very easy book to read, which I don’t mind much when it comes to holiday themed books, but if you like to keep yourself challenged when you read, I don’t recommend this book.
Book # 2- Roald Dahl’s Book of Ghost Stories, stories compiled by Roald Dahl
This is probably the best book of ghost stories I have ever read! They are all classic tales, and they aren’t always necessarily scary; some just have ghosts, or ghost appearances that give you chills, and I think those are some of the best ghost stories! These are also hand picked to be in the book by Roald Dahl (no, he did not write the stories, just chose them), and Dahl has a great taste, so this is probably the book that I would recommend to save for last! Try it out here!
Book # 3- Slasher Girls & Monster Boys, stories compiled and written by April Genevieve Tucholke
This was an awesome book! The book is made up of YA ghost/horror stories, perfect for fans of Stephen King! Every single story was creepy, scary and full of excitement and plot twists! Each story was original and amazingly horrifying. The one thing I have to say against it was that there were some stories that I didn’t quite understand. The stories were the type where it leaves you with an ominous ending and expects you to infer what happened. I am not very good at that, so those stories just leave me in the dark. Other than that though, this was a fantastic Halloween read! Try it out here!
Book # 4- Edgar Allan Poe: Complete Tales and Poetry, by Edgar Allan Poe
Poe is a bit different from the other books. Poe writes gothic fiction which just happens to be way more fun to read in October! His stories do have some horror in them, which makes them exciting. He has supernatural beings and insane and/or alcoholics, which adds a touch of craziness to the story. A lot of Poe’s works have death, and being buried alive. It is definitely a different style from the other scary story books I have up there, but this one is very unique, perfect to read by the fire! And not to mention that Poe’s stories are classics, so they have some flowery language, but they are still very enjoyable! Purchase the book here!
