There are a lot of great movies being made based off of books this upcoming year. A lot of these books I’ve heard loads and loads about but I haven’t read them yet. I’m always scared to watch a movie based on a book I love. I’ve learned the hard way that movies don’t always live up to the fabulous writings they are supposed to be ‘based’ on.
I remember when ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ movie came out. I had read the book previously and reread it in preparation of going to see this movie when it came out. After reading the book the second time though, I decided there was no way the movie could live up to it and didn’t want to see it until I’d heard from others how it was. I heard from a lot of others, since I waited a year to watch it. My thoughts… eh- it could have been better. It was great, don’t get me wrong, but it definitely could have been better.
The next few movies I had the same reaction… Stephanie Plum…The Help…Shopaholic, the list goes on and on of movies that were good, but not as great as the books. So in preparation for this upcoming year’s upcoming books into movies I’ve decided to go a different direction. I will watch the movie first and then look forward to reading the much better book version. That way, I won’t be disappointed because I saved the best for last. I will also post my reviews after I’ve both watched and read the books…for a different look of the best of the best.
So my upcoming list of watches is…
1. The Rosie Project – By Graeme Simsion.
This book has been on my list awhile and since the movie will probably make an appearance before my TBR piles dwindles down I’m excited to watch before reading and then have the excitement of how the movie should have gone with the book.
2. Eleanor & Park – By Rainbow Rowell.
So I’ve read that this book hasn’t even started production yet, so it’s probably at least a year out but I’m super excited to watch this one. I may end up reading the book first, since it is so far out but I really, really hope that it’s as amazing as Rainbow Rowell is.
3. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children – By Ransom Riggs
I love the sounds of this book and the fact that the movie is being made by Tim Burton is so utterly exciting to me. Tim Burton is the king of Peculiar so I’m really; really hoping he will do this book justice. I may or may not be reading this one before the film so, come on Tim, don’t let me down! (Although does Tim Burton ever let down in the peculiar department? No.)
4. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight – By Jennifer E. Smith
This book has the best reviews and will quite possibly end up being my favorite movie out of all listed here. It just reminds me of one of those movies that’s heartwarming and heart breaking at the same time. I can’t wait to watch it, but I will read the book after to avoid that disappointment, just in case.
5. How to be Single – By Liz Tuccillo
I’m super excited to read and watch this. I’m forever fan of these kinds of ‘single girl in the city’ books and movies. I gravitate towards them and them towards me. It very much reminds me of a different version of Sex in the City (which is one of my all-time fav shows, books, movies). I can’t wait for this one to be on the big screen and in my hand.
Well…that’s the condensed version of what I can’t wait to watch… now off to buy the books to go on my TBR stack and taunt me until the big release dates.
Thank you Jaelyn for allowing me to post my nonsense on your blog, I loved it. ☺
