Hi everyone! How was the first day of school?! Now, this book really is a must-read! I highly recommend this book!
Bernadette Fox is well known among many people for different reasons. Her husband knows her as a very opinionated partner; the private-school mothers know her as the mom who never volunteers; to several college architectural programs she is known for her incredible talent and for her fifteen year old daughter Bee, she is a best friend and mom. When Bee chooses to go to Antarctica for a family vacation, Bernadette works tirelessly on plans for the vacation. But after two decades of living a life she never enjoyed, Bernadette reaches her breaking point and runs away. Bee finds emails, secret communications, invoices and articles to discover what her mother has been hiding all those years then sets out to find Bernadette in this novel about a daughter's love for an imperfect mother.
This was a really fantastic book! The book's perspective switched between first person (Bee) and emails, faxes, notes and anything and everything else you can think of. These emails and such give the reader so many perspectives, so the only people in the dark are the characters. When and incident occurs, both sides of the coin are written in the story, along with other supporting documents. It doesn't make the book hard to read, in fact it makes it easier. All these perspectives and opinions come together so you really learn who each character is.
Another thing I really liked was the story was great! It was always moving fluidly, I was never bored and I didn't put the book down until I was finished with it! Unlike some stories, this one gradually grew more and more intense and escalated. You could actually feel the rising action moving beneath you, which you can't always see, and I really enjoyed that aspect.
This book was really just great all around! It is a funny enjoyable read that is perfect for the beach! If you would like to read it, go here! I hope to see you on Wednesday for and author post with Simone Salmon!
