Hey everybody! It feels like forever since I have posted. But I am excited to review The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller.
Patroclus is a young prince. But Patroclus in clumsy and without a talent. The disgraceful prince is exiled to a different kingdom where he meet Achilles who is everything Patroclus isn't. By a stroke of luck, Achilles chooses Patroclus to attend school with him and the two princes form an incredible friendship that neither can live without. Patroclus and Achilles have many adventures together, including being trained by the famous Chiron and going to war, side by side. The story is filled with excitement, love and loyalty in addition to the Greek gods, goddesses and creatures from the myths.
Before I go any further, I must tell you, I did not finish this book. I was about 15 pages from the end before I put it away. I just found the end hard to get to and slow moving. I regret not knowing how the story ended, wether it was a good, okay or bad ending. If any of you have read it, please comment and tell me how you liked the ending, if only to soothe my conscience about not finishing the book.
The rest of the book though was fantastic! I really enjoyed the mythical portion of the book. Another thing I want to point out is how different mythical characters are in different books. What I mean by that is that in the Percy Jackson series, for instance, Chiron is a major character, as is he in The Song of Achilles, but the different authors created different personalities for him, which I found interesting. And Chiron wasn't the only character I liked. I really liked Achilles as a person and a character.
Overall, this was a great book, I just wish it had a better near-ending. I am looking forward to my next post where I hope to see you there!
